But
      where to start?

Jump in at the deep end and start considering the who’s, what’s where’s of
your pool.  We know that your actual pool will be somewhat different
from your initial thoughts but “testing the water” is part of the fun of
designing your pool and then enjoying it for many years to come. Consider the
      following areas:

      Access ?

      Have you planned for
access to the proposed site of your pool from the roadside? Access will be
required for the plant and for an in ground pool ,spoil that it not to be
left for landscaping will have to be taken out to the roadside for
      removal.
      Pool Use?

      Who will use your
pool adults or children? and for serious swimming ,training,
rehabilitation, exercise, hydrotherapy , or is the pool just for fun?  Our experience shows that
most home bathers also spend a lot of time playing, entertaining or
walking by the poolside as well.

      Size?

      The average
traditional family pool is 30' x 15', but if it's to be used for serious
swimming then a longer pool may be desirable, otherwise you spend more
time turning than swimming . If your pool is to be used for serious
swimming or you want to use it all year round have you considered an
      Endless pool?
      Depth?

      3' at the shallow
end will allow swimming by adults as well a children , there are minimum
depths required for different types of diving ( please ask for details). However,
if the pool is to be used only as a splash, fun pool then it is worth
considering having a constant depth of 4'.

      Location
      ?

      Consider whether the
pool going to be enclosed either now or at a later date. If it is going to
remain an outdoor pool, it should preferably face the sun and be sheltered
from the wind. Being close to the house is easier for supervision and
existing facilities for plant or changing rooms can be easily utilised.
Avoid overhead power lines and existing drains.

      Consent?

      Planning permission
is not normally required for outdoor pools, we can look into this for you,
however the local water authority should always be notified.
